The permanent documentary exhibition “Murder and Mass Murder in the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp 1936-1945” is part of the central memorial site “Station Z”. This is how the SS described a building erected in early 1942 that was both a crematorium and an extermination site. “Z”, the last letter of the alphabet, cynically stood for the last station in a prisoner’s life. In “Station Z” there were four crematorium ovens, a gas chamber and a firing area.
